Reaching The School

Tom's team is not only confined with the medical mission it gives. The team in cooperation of the OLCM also reached the school in Tambulilid. Feeling the need of students who have very limited ability to enrich their knowledge is a great way to reach them. The school lacks library, medical supplies, technical equipments like computers, sports equipments and many other things especially the spiritual need of the children.

The Lighthouse started to reach this school last April 1-4 when we had our Vacation Bible School. Since then, we befriend the principal, some of the teachers, and the students who use to call us whenever they see us since that day. A friendship has been created. But that friendship is useless unless we go and help them of the things they need without creating dependency. Now, starting with Tom's team, I believe we just have taken the first step of a deeper relationship with the school.

We gave some dictionaries, Atlas, workbooks, and some school supplies both for the teachers and the students. I believe that the principal is very much happy to the blessings that God gave to the school.

Now if you are planning to reach and be a blessing to your local schools, I suggest you start seeing their need by visiting them personally and start building a good relationship with the local teachers and leaders of the school.

FREE Medical Clinic

Part of our celebrations is the Free Medical Clinic. There were five locations where we held our medical clinic: Brgy Tambulilid, Ormoc City; Baybay, Leyte; Brgy. Kambonnggan, Baybay, Leyte, and Brgy. Malitbogay, Javier, Leyte.

In Tambulilid alone, the medical team brought by Tom Smith was able to serve about 250 patients for two days.  It was indeed a very busy week for the team since there was a great need of health awareness in the areas they served.

Fund for the medicines went dry because the cost of medicine doubled its price compared to 10 years ago, plus a great number of people who needs help. It is something to praise God though, that he provided  for the need of the team and medicines. And it was just very exciting to see people who have smile in their face after being treated and given the medicine they need.

Some Lighthouse members also assisted the team while they were in Tambulilid. A Lighthouse nurse and doctor was also there to assist the team. Some, while assisting also prays for the people being treated, letting them know that the real source of cure is only God.

We all know that the medication that we can give is only temporary. But there is no Biblical Law that contradicts this expression of compassion and love for the people who needs it. Glory be to God.

Ordination's Pastoral Charge: 2 Timothy 2

Ordination is the act of setting apart to an office in the Christian ministry; the conferring of holy orders (from the dictionary).

A reminder though, true ordination comes from God, and all of us Christians were already ordained by God. The fact that God called us to be his sons and daughters, setting as apart from the world, and calling us his "holy nation" is just a mere evidence of God's anointing of His people. Denominational ordination is just a ceremony confirming the Sect's affirmation of their pastor's possessed qualities of being a reliable pastor.

One of the best passages in the Bible concerning pastoral charges is found in 2 Timothy 2. To summarize the passage in verses 1-6, there are several things that a pastor should become.

• Reliable Teacher


• Reliable Soldier


• Reliable Athlete


• Reliable Farmer

If you are a pastor, whether ordained or not, the qualifications above is a must.

For the rest of the passage, it's up to you to meditate on it.

1You then, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus. 2And the things you have heard me say in the presence of many witnesses entrust to reliable men who will also be qualified to teach others. 3Endure hardship with us like a good soldier of Christ Jesus. 4No one serving as a soldier gets involved in civilian affairs—he wants to please his commanding officer. 5Similarly, if anyone competes as an athlete, he does not receive the victor's crown unless he competes according to the rules. 6The hardworking farmer should be the first to receive a share of the crops. 7Reflect on what I am saying, for the Lord will give you insight into all this.
8Remember Jesus Christ, raised from the dead, descended from David. This is my gospel, 9for which I am suffering even to the point of being chained like a criminal. But God's word is not chained. 10Therefore I endure everything for the sake of the elect, that they too may obtain the salvation that is in Christ Jesus, with eternal glory.
11Here is a trustworthy saying:
If we died with him,
we will also live with him;
12if we endure,
we will also reign with him.
If we disown him,
he will also disown us;
13if we are faithless,
he will remain faithful,
for he cannot disown himself.
A Workman Approved by God
14Keep reminding them of these things. Warn them before God against quarreling about words; it is of no value, and only ruins those who listen. 15Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a workman who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth. 16Avoid godless chatter, because those who indulge in it will become more and more ungodly. 17Their teaching will spread like gangrene. Among them are Hymenaeus and Philetus, 18who have wandered away from the truth. They say that the resurrection has already taken place, and they destroy the faith of some. 19Nevertheless, God's solid foundation stands firm, sealed with this inscription: "The Lord knows those who are his,"[a] and, "Everyone who confesses the name of the Lord must turn away from wickedness."
20In a large house there are articles not only of gold and silver, but also of wood and clay; some are for noble purposes and some for ignoble. 21If a man cleanses himself from the latter, he will be an instrument for noble purposes, made holy, useful to the Master and prepared to do any good work.
22Flee the evil desires of youth, and pursue righteousness, faith, love and peace, along with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart. 23Don't have anything to do with foolish and stupid arguments, because you know they produce quarrels. 24And the Lord's servant must not quarrel; instead, he must be kind to everyone, able to teach, not resentful. 25Those who oppose him he must gently instruct, in the hope that God will grant them repentance leading them to a knowledge of the truth, 26and that they will come to their senses and escape from the trap of the devil, who has taken them captive to do his will.

OLCM Celebrates It's 10th Anniversary

Ormoc Lighthouse Christian Ministry celebrates its 10th Anniversary on June 14, 2009. It was one of the major gatherings and perhaps the biggest gathering of the Lighthouse Ministries for the past 5 years.

All of the Lighthouse outreaches in Ormoc attended this great celebration with their respective pastors. Rev. Tom Smith was the guest speaker of the celebration. Ptr. Cleto Bacarro who was the first official pastor of the Lighthouse is also present which made it a great reunion for all Lighthouse pastors and workers.

After the worship service, we had a nice motorcade parade around the city. We gave some pamphlets with candies to the people that we passed by and wave our hands to people we know. Many of us wear our official t-shirt of the year with a pride (godly pride that Paul mentioned) that we are the “Ormoc Lighthouse Christian Ministry”

After the motorcade, here comes the lunch. We have 3 “Lechon Baboy” (roasted pig), delicacies from different churches and a prepared pack lunch from the Lighthouse were also given to each person. Eating together was good and everybody enjoyed the fellowship.

After lunch, Ptr. Vince and Grace were called to sit on stage to begin the ceremony for ordination. Ormoc Lighthouse Christian Ministry servant leaders moved and passed a letter of request to the Office of the President of the Visayas Convention of Southern Baptist Churches that pastor Vince be ordained.

The ordinating committee asked several questions concerning Ptr. Vince's views of his support to the convention and the association, his call to the ministry, his greatest joy and disappointments as a pastor, and what drives him to be a pastor.

Rev. Tom Smith quoted the pastoral charge in 2 Timothy 2, one of the best Biblical pastoral charges.

Pastors and Preacher's Fellowship

Last Saturday, June 13, our pastors together with the our preachers had a lunch fellowship in one of the resort here in Ormoc. Our guests, Tom Smith and the medical team are our honory guests. Tom Smith was the founder of “The Lighthouse Resource Center” which is now known as the “Ormoc Lighthouse Christian Ministry”.

Wave back about 15 years ago, there were only less than five pastors of Paglaum Baptist Mission in Leyte. Now, there were about 15 recognized workers and about 8 regular preachers of our churches. For the past 15 years, the work of the Lord is just continously growing including the number of ministers in Leyte.

Going back to our fellowship, Rev.Tom Smith shared to us a word of God found in the book of Philippians, that says we are to continue working for the Lord. Leaving behind everything and focusing to what is ahead of us.

OLCM Upcoming 10th Anniversary Celebrations and Our T-shirt

Our upcoming Church 10th Anniversary Celebration is only a few days ahead. We will start our celbration a couple of days before Sunday, the big event and will continue 2 days after. This means that the over all celebration is about 5 days long.

But of course we do not have all the energy in purely celebrating through singing and dancing. We have made several events just before the actual celebration. Here's the list of activities that we will be having over the weekend until next week.

Finally, just before I end this post, I just want to express my deepest excitement for our T-shirt where I personally designed the print on the shirt. I don't know if it will pass your taste. But as for me, it did. Not because I am the one who designed it, but it was asked from the Lord.:)

June 2009 Baptism

A tiring day, but a fruitful day. This is how I can describe this day's events in our life in the Lighthouse. The ministry is getting heavier, wider and broader. Behind all these things a reward comes for the discipler.

There's nothing more exciting with the ministry of a discipler than to see his disciples making disciples and becoming disciplers themselves. This is what is happening to Ormoc Lighthouse Christian Ministry. A group of women who decided to call themselves “Lydia's Merchants” moved on and started to make disciples. Five from their Bible study group decided to get baptized today.

This is our third set of baptism since December 2008. Today, 3 new disciples have been baptized. One of those who committed for baptism was not able to come due to to lack of communication while the other one was not baptized due to health reason. 3 out 5 is not bad at all and is already a good harvest.

The see is a little rough with big waves which makes it a little difficult for us to do this act of obedience. But with God's grace, everything went well and the event has been very succesful.

LASBC Youth Camp 2009: "From the Inside Out"

This year's youth camp has been a great blessing both to our young people and to our visitors. This year's camp was themed: “From the Inside Out” quoted from two passages; Matthew 28:18-20 and Joshua 1:16. The theme's focus is the change of life of the young people both from the inside and the outside.

Even at the first night of the camp, the young people were already set on fire for the Lord. Ptr. Emer Cables delivered the message and all young people forwarded during the invitation. As the Holy Spirit moves through the hearts of these young people, they asked for forgiveness and recommitted their lives for the service of our Lord Jesus Christ to spread the gospel.

On the last night of the Youth Camp, yours truly preached about the changed of heart needed in order to have a changed outcome. And just like the first night, the Holy Spirit continue to move in the heart of these young people.

As we go for another year of facing our lives, my only prayer to the young people is that a change of heart will start to come out so that a changed outcome will start to emerge. See you next year LASBC Youth!!!

Music Clinic In OLCM

May 6-8, some of the young adults from Cainta Baptist Church and a young pastor from Tagbilaran came to Ormoc Lighthouse Christian ministry to teach and share valuable things concerning music ministry in our churches.

Ptr. Gumps Beltran taught voice lesson, playing guitar and playing drums along with bro. Luke Barromeo a young people from Cainta Baptist Church.

Ptr. Emer Cables and bro. Allan Ingeniero taught things about worship leading. They covered the who, when, where, what, how, and why of worhip leading; how to be an effective worship leader; recruiting worship team members, and living a life of worship.

Young people and the worship team of OLCM attended the seminar. The seminar-workshop has been a great blessing and a great help to the church and we are looking forward that what the OLCM worship team learned will be passed to the outreaches.







Thanks to God in using these younger generation of ministers.

Ptr. Rudy Laag Receives A Bike

With the on-going project of Paglaum Baptist Mission / PIEI-Philippines, another pastor from the outreach ministries of Ormoc receives a bike.

Ptr. Rudy Laag has been in the ministry for quite sometime. He is pastoring one of the first established baranggay church under the Lighthouse Ministries wave back in 1990's, Milagro Baptist Church. This church has been started with the joint efforts of Rev. Tom Smith and Rev. Vir Olaer.


Today, the ministry in Milagro continues and is continously growing. With this new 2nd hand motorcycle, it is our deep prayers that more people will come to know the Lord and the ministry will continue to extend in nearby baranggays.

Calling all overseas and local friends, relatives, and church members!!! I would like to encourage everybody to donate books for Tambulilid Elementary School. If you have 2^nd books in your homes that you no longer use for elementary students, I encourage you to give it for the less fortunate kids in Tambulilid.

I had a priviledge of visiting their library and they really have very few books. But guess what, this school is very open for Christian work like VBS. The principal gave us six classrooms where we can conduct our VBS this coming April 1-4, 2009.

Every single book that you donate will really mean a lot for our students in Tambulilid. Currently, we also have about 5 students from that school who are attending our Worship Service in Tambulilid.

Sports Mission For Ormoc, Philippines

The www.Sportsmission.com is currently promoting their plan to have a partnership project in Ormoc City, Philippines. A new job request to all who are interested to join the project are very much welcome.

Ormoc is located in the Northewest part of the island of Leyte, Philippines. It is small peaceful city. The city is not overly populated and crime rate is much lower in comparison to other big cities within the Philippines.

People are friendly even to foreigners. In fact, more and more foreigners keeps on coming back in Ormoc because of its peacefulness.

However, Ormoc City is predominantly Catholic and there is a strong underground oppression to those people who accepts Christ and became a member of Evangelical Churches. This is true especially within the families. If one of the member of the family becomes an Evangelical Christian, he or she will be cast out from the family who is a Catholic.

Even public schools have some form of oppression to Evangelical Christians. School officials and teachers do not agree to any Christian activities inside the school except Catholic activities. And if they allow Evangelical Christians to use the premises of the school, they will charge a huge amount of rent.

In contrast to this fact, Evangelical Churches in Ormoc City joined together to strengthen the grip of Evangelical Christians in Ormoc. They called this association as OCEMA (Ormoc Christian Evangelical Ministerial Association). With this unity among Evangelical Churches, our relationship to city officials and the respect of other religious organizations to our group is significantly rising.

Ormoc Lighthouse Christian Ministry, our Church is also trying its best to reach out the young generation by teaching True Love Waits, and other Christian teachings to high schoolers. The Lighthouse Family Day

It was indeed a fun day for all of us... a great break after a year of working in the field. All of us had a real nice day.

The Lighthouse Christian Ministry continuously aim in telling the world about Jesus Christ. To tell them the peace that we've got from Him. These pictures are the evidence of those peace. A group of people who love each other and continuously serve each other.
