Taking Heed To Miss Nothing

Text: Hebrews 2

Introduction

Last week, we talked about the authority of Jesus Christ. We have seen that Jesus Christ above all creation. Meaning, nothing was made through him, and he all authority among the creation was given unto His feet.

We have also seen that Jesus is above the angels. Even the angels were commanded to worship Him. No one among the angels where God told them to sit at His right hand. Such an honorable privilege was only given to Jesus Christ.

We have to take heed of the truth that we have heard (v.1)

It is very important for us to take note the very opening of this chapter. The very first verse is a very strong intense statement of a command to take note of something that we really should be aware of, and that we need to be reminded all the time.

This very first phrase was even supported by a stronger phrase that tells us to forget the things that we have heard. Not only that we need to listen carefully to the things that we have heard and do them, but he have to keep it and maintain it, taking heed of it, following what it says all the time.

For if we will NOT take heed of the truth the result would be:

We might miss recognizing the salvation that was given to us (v. 2-4).

There are lots of people who have been hearing the gospel of salvation everyday. All the trainings, all the efforts that we have been working on for the past 9 years are for the mission and vision in reaching people in Ormoc, making Christ known to these people.

As far as we can remember in the things that we have already learned in the past, it is God who initiate to reach us and not us to reach God. It is because all our efforts fall short in the glory of God. This is why we have been saved by grace through faith, and such salvation is not by works lest we will boast (Ephesians 2:8-9)

God at the very beginning of sin continuously reaching people to restore them back. This is God's act of grace and mercy. He continuously giving the people a chance to go back and choose Him. This is the reason why He gave His only begotten Son.

And this is exactly what God did, He gave His only begotten Son as a gift to humanity, so that whosoever believes in Him will not perish but have everlasting life. All people are free to believe Him or not which means, though it was given to humanity, it is up to every individual whether to accept this marvelous gift or not.

Unfortunately, only a few claimed the gift. Some did not even mind to accept the gift even though the knowledge about this great gift was made known to them. Some do not and cannot believe it. It is absolutely free, yet it is the most important gift that a man can ever have.

We might miss recognizing the authority and honor of our Lord (v. 5-9).

Many people really don't mind God's word. Many even don't care about the Bible. Ask them if it is ok for them to have a Bible Study, ask them if they want to hear God's word. Even inside the church, there were even some who prefer to stay outside the hall so that they can freely talk. Young people even feel it boring to listen to God's word to which they prefer to play online games all night long rather than to listen to the sermon.

Last week, we have learned that Jesus was above all the angels and all creations on earth. We have been reminded that Jesus Christ posses supreme authority. But because of many things that hinders us and tempts, many of us has fallen away and thought that it is more enjoyable to be in the world rather than to be with God.

Where is respect and honor to Jesus when we used to come to church late? Where is respect and honor to Jesus when we used to go out during worship service time and not listen to God's word? Where is respect and honor to our Lord when we can easily cancel our schedules in not going to Church to attend parties? These are the questions that we can answer within ourselves. All my prayers is for us to see the real truth that lies in God's word, and that we will not become merely listeners but doers.

We might miss recognizing the author and perfecter of the faith (v. 10-15).

Not only the authority and honor of our Lord Jesus Christ that we might miss, but He himself. Try to ask some children outside the church about Jesus Christ, many of them would have heard about Him, but many of them respect Mary more than Him.

Sometimes, because of the stubbornness of people and denial to recognize God's words, we even fail that it was Jesus who gave up His life at the cross of calvary for our sake. It is not someone else that we have to give more honor to him rather than Jesus. This is exactly what happened to our world today.

People are supposed to be depending on Jesus and not to someone else. And because of this, many people where deceived and failed to recognize their savior and recognize those people who were just among them.
